Consumers can now request access to their data from major internet and streaming service providers in 3 easy steps.
Los Angeles, CA (January 1, 2020) —Streamlytics announced the launch of GetMyData.io today to help everyday people request their data from many of today’s popular internet and streaming service providers.
The new product comes on the heels of the recently in effect California Consumer Protection Act (CCPA) impacting over 39 million California residents. The new act follows a slew of state-level data privacy acts and several pending federal bills that affect how the data of everyday people is used. Under CCPA companies have 45 days to provide a consumer with their data before being fined upward of $7,500 per violation.
“With data breaches becoming a norm, consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the need to take ownership and control of their data rights. We’re excited to be at the forefront of helping people actually take control of their data with simple, easy to use tools,” says Angela Benton, Chief Executive Officer of Streamlytics.
GetMyData.io will also track individual data requests made by consumers to ensure service provider’s compliance with the new legislation which gives consumers the ability to legally:
- Request their data from service providers.
- Request that their data be deleted from service providers.
- Ensure their data is portable and able to be exported from said providers.
Laws like CCPA go above and beyond just being applicable to California-based businesses. Any company that has a customer in the state of California, a state with the fifth-largest economy in the world, must comply.
Companies who collect data can also benefit by mitigating their risk of consumer rights violations by using the GetMyData software developer kit (SDK). The SDK reduces development costs while ensuring compliance. The new technology also provides transparency to lawmakers looking to police compliance on behalf of their constituents.
GetMyData.io is available to the public.
